Occupied Kashmir / India:
The family of Afzal Guru (photo below) was kept completely uninformed about his hanging, and his dead body was seized by the authorities away from his family and disrespecting his right to be buried according to Islamic rituals, in a blatant breach of Guru’s basic Human Rights and the Human Rights Law.
By doing this, Indian authorities think they can break the will of Kashmiris to keep marching towards liberating their occupied land. India can never defeat Kashmiris by using force and fabricating charges against them, many incidents had proven this.
Guru was hanged on February 9th, 2013 according to Draconian Law, an Athenian Law under which small offenses get heavy punishments. This reflects nothing but the brutality and injustice of the judicial system in India. Many examples had proven that Indian courts are biased and unreliable especially when it comes to cases related to Kashmiris and Occupied Kashmir.
During his trials, Guru had been subjected to extreme torture which included electric shocks in private parts and being beaten up for hours along with threats regarding his family and relatives after his arrest. Between the time of his arrest and the time when fabricated charges were filed, Guru was told that his brother was held in detention as a pressure on him, and this led him to make fake confessions under duress as his family was being threatened as well.
Indian civil society and International community should take notice of Guru’s death in order to prevent such crimes committed by those who are supposed to prevent them from happening.
Days after hanging Afzal Guru, a strict curfew was imposed in the streets of Kashmir, on Media, Internet, Newspapers, basic amenities. Full siege by Indian Army was imposed against Kashmir. Shootings were everywhere addressed to anyone who protests, five dead according to Indian sources but hundreds according to ours.
The situation inside India wasn’t better though. Hindu extremists attacked Kashmiri protests at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. People were not allowed to pray or gather for praying! By committing these practices, India holds the banner that says; “Welcome to “Caged Kashmir” where Indian Democracy & Secularism is in full swing”!
The shocking thing during all of these events was that the world remained silent and pretended to be blind, while watching the so-called “Democratic Country” parading its fangs against armless protesters and violating their basic Human Rights the “Right to Protest peacefully and the Right of Expression”.
Monitoring Human Rights violations committed by the Indian Government.
